Euro Times review

The integrity of the vitreous body as a separate compartment in the eye is important for the normal function of the lens and retina. The present volume explores the mechanisms which induce vitreous damage and isolates and analyzes the resulting pathological changes which undermine the functioning of the eye. Given that cataract surgery is one of the most important causes of vitreous decompartmentalization, particular attention is paid to strategies for limiting vitreous damage induced by cataract surgery and the treatment of secondary cataracts.

A unique feature of the volume is the inclusion of 80 pairs of stereo slides, with viewer, selected from Dr. Worst's vast private collection. The stereoscopic view these guarantee is essential to a sound interpretation of the vitreous structure.

J.G.F. Worst pioneered much of what is now accepted as basic to our understanding of the vitreous. His insights form the basis of the present text, compiled, systematized and written by L.I. Los and generously illustrated. This monograph will prove invaluable to ophthalmologists confronted with diseases of the lens, the retina and the vitreous, to ophthalmologists in training, to cataract and vitreoretinal surgeons and to researchers studying vitreoretinal and vitreolenticular relationships.
